Computations
AssetView is a highly computative environment. A transaction rolls up into a lot, into an asset, and into an account. Overlaying that hierarchy is a collection of AssetView features such as asset class aggregations and attribute aggregations. Overlaying that, if you enable, are data feeds from integrated Sources that supply your Personal Investment Data. Overlaying that are asset price feeds.
Each new or changed transaction results in a need for re-computation of investment performance metrics for each-roll up and feature (e.g. profit, potential profit, XIRR, MOM) across the stack.
Calculate
AssetView, while computationally intense, is designed to enable you to enter, import, or receive through an integration large quantities of new or changed transactions rapidly. To achieve this, after you enter or edit a transaction, AssetView prompts you on the top right of the screen in an an orange font to "Calculate". You may then choose to enter additional transactions and the "Calculate" indicator will stay lit. Whenever you wish, you may choose to invoke the re-computation process and AssetView will re-compute base don all of the transactions in the Calculate queue. Once the Calculate function is invoked, a "Tasks Running" indicator shows until the critical computations complete. You may continue entering data once that indicator ends.
Fields That You Instruct When to Compute
To optimize performance, AssetView performs some computations upon your instruction. These fields display a lightning icon that you click to invoke the computation process.
Fields Awaiting Results of Automatic Computation
To optimize performance, AssetView performs some computations automatically in the background. Fields awaiting the results of these background process computations show a "*" until the computed results display.
Sync Button
The Sync button synchronizes all data (e.g. sources, accounts, assets, transactions). The Sync process is computational intense. So, we put you in control of when you invoke the process by clicking the Sync icon on the top menu bar. To maximize efficiency, on a specific Source page, you may:
- Sync just that Source
- Disable Sync such that a particularly detailed Source temporarily does not participate in the general Sync process
Refresh Pricing
AssetView automatically refreshes asset prices. You may also click the "Refresh Pricing" button to manually invoke the process.
